Will hunters in a public hunting forest care if I am target shooting at paper targets?

Filed in shooting targets 30 Comments

I live in WA

It certainly is "legal" to shoot on public land such as USFS,DNR (some places) and BLM (Some places), BUT if I were in an area that I normally hunt and someone is popping off pistols, rifles, what ever , it CAN look llike you are INTENTIONALLY causing noise to interfere with hunting activities-which is illegal in WA and most if not all states. Now, if you are in a relatively open area where the chances of someone hunting within miles of you is pretty slim, then that isn’t as much of a problem. Now, if you are 400 yards off the road and going in deeper just to shoot then you probably will get a visit from a Game Warden, just to ensure that you are not doing something you shouldn’t be. So, if there is something like an established area where you go shooting, that makes everyone’s life easier.
Now, put yourself in the hunter’s position. They get out with intentions of hunting an area, maybe they scouted it, of it is a favorite area, and here you are plugging away. They have to up and move, make new plans and basically have half a day ruined. Everyone blames slob hunters for making life hard for the rest of us, and here you want to be a slob shooter….. just saying.
So, find a place to shoot that isn’t going to cause an issue, or hit the local range for a couple weeks. Common sense and courtesy say you don’t go shooting where the chances of screwing up someone’s hunting trip is possible.

Where can I legally shoot targets with a shotgun?

Filed in shooting targets 8 Comments

I live in apartments, and have no land. can I just go out into the middle of nowhere (not on anyone’s land, or around any houses or rural areas) and shoot targets legally? If not, how do I find a place (other than a shooting range because we don’t have one around here) I have heard many different things about laws pertaining to shotguns in Texas.

Just ask the local Police Department. That is how I found out about the laws.

Where I live, as long as you are outside the city limits you can shoot. Just make sure that you are not shooting into unknown areas obviously, so that no stray bullets travel to houses or where people may be.

Make sure that the land you are shooting on is known by the owner. Remember, ALL land is owned by someone here in the U.S.

Michigan Target Shooting March 21, 2008

Here is another video taken in Michigan shooting my new Russian Siaga 7.62X39, Marlin 45-70, BPS 10 Gauge and Ruger 10/22. It was my first time shooting the Siaga and the 10/22. Both preformed well with the Siaga only having one malfunction. I was a little bit cold with a little less wind than my last video. As always I was wearing my ear protection. As unsafe as it is I can’t stand to wear shooting glasses. It is time however for a new set of ear protection. I’m looking into a better pair as my ears are still ringing.

Am visiting UK next mth. Which is the best shop to buy shooting accessories & targets glasses air pistols etc?

Filed in shooting targets 4 Comments

Need to purchase shooting glasses, ear defenders, shoot n c targets and other accessories such as range bags, cleaning kits, sprays, dummy bullets, laser lights and anything else that might be available. We live in Kenya and these accessories are not available readily here. Also need night sights for a variety of 9mm pistols. And last but not least .177 calibre Air Pistols also required. Since am in UK for only a week need to plan best place to shop at.

do you have permission to use airsofts on private land while you are here? no licence is required for private land and under 12 ft lbs. everything else is an offence. and you really dont want a real police hkmp5 pointed at you.

save the hassle and go paintballing to an organsied site like http://www.paintballgames.co.uk/ im sure they would be pleased to equip you with all the kit that you need for air powered fun. and possibly put you in touch with local sporting stores they recommend. give it a shot! ;)

buying kit here is expensive too. and some of it you would (obviously) not be allowed to take home. so be wise in your purchases. and on the safe side of the uk law, which is very strict.

in all.. i think its best you book a few days at a good paintball park than risk being arrested. imo. =)

What is a good biathlon style gun an under 18 could buy/use for target shooting?

Filed in shooting targets 17 Comments

After doing shooting today for an hour i would like to purchase a rifle style gun. I would like to practice shooting targets and stuff… is it possible to buy one if you are under 18? If so what is a good choice? I would like one like they use in biathlon? Maybe Airsoft or BB?

You can’t purchase a firearm under the age of 18.

both 6mm airsoft and 4.5mm BBs lack one critical element for accuracy, a rifled barrel – so your only choice would be a real steel rifle or a pellet rifle.

Consider an entry level single-stroke pneumatic pellet rifle, they are relatively cheap – here are a couple

Avanti 853CM http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=1000
$320

$400

I don’t know about your area but they sell targets like that at my local Texas gun shops and at a couple nearby ranges. Why not just ask in your town?
You can also do a search online for "silhouette targets".
