i want a classic archery target and i keep finding archery target faces, are they the actual targets or are they just covers.
where can i find the actual targets really cheap?
what should i type in to look the real targets up?
Go to www.lancasterarchery.com and look up target butts. Target faces are just the covers, it’s a sheet of tyvek, paper or cloth that has the print on them so you can score. The butts are the ones stopping the arrows.
or you can make them yourself. Straw bales as the other poster said can be had in some places for as little as $20. Those will stop arrows from some pretty heavy bows, up to a 50# recurve if you buy one of those 80# bales. Now if you have compound then you want to add something extra. What I usually do is, buy those play mats for sale on Toys r Us or Pep Boys. The Pep Boys version is usually more durable. These are 24"x24" foam mats that interlocks. Put two of those on the bale and it’ll stop just about any arrow.
But if you’re looking for a classic round butt, ok that sounds bad, look up something from Saunders or American Whitetail. Saunders make straw butts, that need more care and attention than the Whitetail foam butts. The Whitetail ones are the ones you see at tournaments, those are heavy duty, and very heavy. So shipping is the killer, usually cost as much to ship the darn thing as the item itself. Danage makes a square butt, but also rather pricey at around $300 a pop.

Sometimes, I know a guy who hunts with his FITA bow. All he would do is take the stabilizer off and it turns into a hunting bow. But most of the time the bows are quite different. Camouflage pattern is not allowed in some tournaments.
Most bowhunters who use a recurve bow tend to prefer a simple wooden recurve compared to a more complex FITA bow, more things can go wrong with a FITA bow. Some tournaments also limit the poundage of the bow for compounds. So most hunting compounds will be left out.
Hunting compounds usually are equipped with pin sights, while tournament compounds are usually equipped with magnified sights.
But for recreational purposes, you can use any type of bow to shoot targets, but only bows of certain weight is useable for hunting.

Let me introduce you a unique ARCHERY TARGET SYSTEM. Hereby I attach a link which shows the working machine and its main features. We are currently looking for an investor who might be interested in developing and the serial production of the target system.
About the system:
- Electronic controlled system with computer display (1 machine more display possibilities and more machines-1 display possibility as well.)
- Radio data sending ( distance limit: 200ms )
- Position of the arrow is read and defined by outside sensors not by built in surface.
- Can be used with any kind of polifoam.
In case you are interested and should you have any questions regarding the foundation please do not hesitate to contact us on the below contact details.
A more detailed description document can be sent as well if requested.

I’ve searched the internet and cant find any cheap ways to make a homemade archery target i am a begginer and want to practice.
My bow is a compound bow with a draw wieght 30-45 pounds Plz help.
You could use the Shrink-Wrap Poly film that is discarded from pallets. You need to get a lot of it and compress it down and then put that into a burlap bag large enough to serve as a target. Other packing material that would work is foam sheets folded and stacked tightly. Again, it would need to be compressed and tied or secured in a box that is serving as the target. If you use the foam, you want the folds as the exposed target, not the "field" side. It would look like a phone book and you shoot at it like you would shoot the page edges opposite the spine.
Commercial targets stack foam and bind it tightly, and you shoot between the stacked sheets to ease the extraction.

Mines nylon. But I read an article one time about using those left over grocery bags to fill a feed bag. I tried it and it works as well as the store bought. I just use my left over bait bags for the large bag then fill with Kroger bags.
