Before investing in archery equipment with the intentions of hunting, you should first check your state or province hunting regulations to see what is required. Most of them have a minimum standard of what is or is not allowed for legal hunting. In every instance, I think you will find the lowest allowed to be much higher than the draw weight of beginner sets or starter bows intended for youngsters. I would not consider hunting ANY game the size of deer, etc with a bow which has a draw weight (amount of pounds pull it takes to pull it to its full length) less than 40 or 45 pounds. Even at that, your shots will be limited to very close ranges and the risk of only injuring an animal rather than killing it increase dramatically. And after you have determined the legal draw weight, then you may want to decide between recurve bows versus the more efficient compound bows with their space-age pulleys and weight-reduction technology. There is a LOT to consider. Don’t rush the selection by wasting time and money on something that will later prove insufficient. The best place to find the answers you should prepare yourself with are at your local archery dealer of archer club. Check the yellow pages for the closest one to your area. Best of luck!

This is the final remake of part 1. Basicly the same content with a different intro that doesnt draaaaag on. This video covers collecting shoots for arrows with a stone flake. I collect a couple different species, osoberry, current and red osier, but I will narrow it down to the red osier to make the set of arrows. Please keep in mind that I am NOT an expert at archery and make no claims to be. My ultimate goal is to build a totally primitive archery set to eventually take an animal with. This is my journey to complete that goal and y’all are invited along. This will also cover a few different topics because of the nature of this endevour requires some knapped tools and such. Thanks for watching. Feel free to ask any questions or offer any critique.

I plan to buy a set of competition archery equipment (used in Olympic game not for hunting) in Portland OR, LA or San Francisco. I like Hoyt Nexus raiser and other Accessoriess very much. Is there any archery store sell these products in above cities?
Some of the archery store only sell hunting bow. Not competition recurve.
I asked archersafield but they said it need several weeks to get the products. It means there is no good in the store.
Talk to Friedhelm at K1 Archery. He doesn’t really have a store, but he can sell you anything. His website is www.k1-archery.com. He’s also a competitive archer. He specializes on Olympic style bows. He just recently start selling compounds.
In LA, there’s also Hi Tech Archery, their prices are quite a bit higher than Friedhelm’s, but they have a large store in Fullerton, near LA. Talk to Rick, his son Scott is one of the top archers in CA. They usually have a few of the top end bows in stock.

At the moment I’m not worried about the actual hunt. I’m more interested now in learning to shoot and get really good at it. I received a Fred Bear Element compound bow for Christmas set at 28" 60-70lb draw. The archery shop I got set up at set the bow at like 55lbs to start me out…Is this ok since the bow weight says 60-70? Any other advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Compound bows are very adjustable in draw-weight, so don’t worry too much about it. As for learning how to use the bow…
There a few forums I can recommend; they are "populated" by some very intelligent, informative people. If you are looking for a book to use, there are also a few of those I can recommend.
First, though, let me say that there is no "One Right Way" to do archery; there may be some small differences in methods, and some methods may be better than others — but what works for one person does not neccesarily work for everyone else. Find what works for YOU, specifically, and stick with it; constantly changing from one method to another is the absolute worst thing you can do. And don’t worry about the "low" draw weight of your bow; 55 lbs is pretty much nominal for most archers, yet still fairly high for a beginner (even for a compound user). Since you are using a compound bow, what you really need to consider is the "let-off" — the percentage of draw-weight you will actually be holding when you are at "full draw" (a 55 lb bow with 80% let-off means you will hold only 11 lbs at full draw – but that amount of let-off is rather high). Just relax and enjoy the archery!
Note: Any "hard to find" books, just do a websearch for them. Some are available on-line. If you have any questions, just ask. I will do what I can to provide you with the answer.

My son wants a toy bow and arrow. We don’t want to buy him one from a hunting store because that would support hunting, but I can’t find one of the toy ones. I searched on Target.com and Toysrus.com but I still can’t find one. Do you know where I can find a cheap archery set for kids? Thanks!
Just about the only place(s) you will find toy bows/arrows, the ones with foam and soft plastic, are ***stores that sell toys***. If you are looking for a small bow, with arrows to go with it, something which will actually be able to put those arrows ***into the target***….then you are not looking for a toy of any kind.
Try Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Target, Costco, etc. for the toys — and archery stores for the bows/arrows.
Oh, and the thing about "supporting hunting"? A person does NOT have to be a hunter to be an archer, and buying something from a sporting-goods store does NOT necessarily mean they "support hunting". Last year I bought a knife and a pair of binoculars from Sportsman’s Warehouse (a store which is a veritable "hunter’s paradise") — and I did not purchase them for hunting. I also purchased my longbow, which I muse for ***target archery***, at a "hunting store".
If you want they toys, go to a toy store — but if you want archery equipment…you have to go to a store which sells archery equipment, what you call a "hunting store".

i ever asked the personnel at the archery range.
you have to go through permission from the police and get a license.
but the thing is you will need the assistance mainly from the personnel at the archery range.
before you want to own a set of archery, ask yourself why and if you really need to own one.
archery is a self-displinary sport too you know?
ps: there is highly an age limit too.
