Where can you buy a used archery/bowhunting bow in ct?

Filed in archery bow 5 Comments

Im interested in archery/bowhunting and i want to know if there is any place in ct you can go and buy a used bow.

Do you know of a range in your area? Try www.usarchery.org and find a range. Talk to the local archers and find out where they go for equipment. Usually the best way to find the good shops. In my years of experience dealing with archery stores, I’ve come across many types of clerks, some knowledgeable, most aren’t, I’ve met one that is very knowledgeable but it takes him forever to order the stuff, etc. So find out these little pieces of info first. Find out where to go and who to talk to.

How often should the string on an archery bow be replaced?

Filed in archery bow 6 Comments

It will depend on the condition of the string. Keep it waxed, protect it from nicks- such as a broadhead touching it, and it should last a very long time- I shoot almost daily, hunt almost everyday of bow season- it last for 5 months in my state- and have only broken one string in my lifetime. Just keep it waxed, check it every so often and you’ll never have a problem.

what kind of archery bow is standard at boy scout camp?

Filed in archery bow 5 Comments

i was just there and i want to buy one. i really want to get a good deal on ebay, but i have no idea what poundage or type they are.

The standard bow for scout camps is a recurve bow. Take down recurves are more versatile than fixed limb recurves. The difference between the two is that fixed limbs are usually single piece fiberglass bows. Take down bows have the limbs bolted to the grip and limbs can be removed and replaced with different sizes to vary the draw weight of the bow. Most scout camps shoot recurve bows from 25 to 35 pounds.

Recurves are simple and require no maintenance other than waxing the string. Compound bows require routine maintenance to adjust cam settings and to lubricate the various moving parts. Recurves typically cost less than compound bows.
